Influenza still hasn’t peaked. It’s not at record levels, but it’s close — and it is still going up. Meanwhile, measles. 🙁

Measles

‼️‼️ ALERT! This article (2025-02-16) reports that there is a measles case in Fraser which came in on Air Canada Flight 66, arriving from Bangkok Feb 11.

Reminder: if you were vaccinated in the US between 1957 and 1968, you might need another shot. This article (2025-02-21) agrees with me.

Charts

From the BC CDC Situation Report:

Data through Feb 15.

Note: don’t get too excited about the approximately zero deaths: there were zero deaths listed last week also, and it was just because the data was late coming in. 🙁 The death rate is way down, just not down as far as it looks.

Comparison vs. Other Influenza-Like-Illnesses, from the Viral Pathogen Characterization page:

Percent positivity

In the most recent data (ending 15 Feb) as reported on 20 Feb 2025, among influenza-like illness (i.e upper respiratory diseases) cases the province has test data for:

  • 70% were influenza A or B;
  • 14% were RSV;
  • 4% were COVID-19;
  • 4% were entero/rhinoviruses;
  • 6% were “common cold” coronaviruses;
  • adenoviruses, metapneumonia viruses, and parainfluenza were all under 2%.
