Note: The province will not give another update until 3 Jan 2025.
There are about 20% more respiratory illnesses than were reported last week. However, they also increased last week’s figures, so this week is about the same as what they now say we had last week. 🙁
The COVID-19 numbers don’t get revised as much over time — whatever reporting system they have for COVID-19 is quicker, apparently. And so it’s probably meaningful that there are a few more COVID-19 cases this week than last week.
Charts
From the BC CDC Situation Report:
Comparison vs. Other Influenza-Like-Illnesses, from the Viral Pathogen Characterization page:
RSV is still the most common infection in this report.
In the week ending 14 December as reported on 19 Dec, among confirmed cases, there were:
- about 82% as many COVID-19 cases as flu cases,
- about 55% as many COVID-19 cases as RSV cases,
- about 23% more COVID-19 cases as enterovirus or rhinovirus cases.
- only 20% as many COVID-19 cases as all the other influenza-like illnesses (influenza, RSV, enterovirus, rhinovirus, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza, and common-cold coronaviruses) combined.
Reminder: the graphs below don’t tell how many cases there were, but how many cases they found when testing. Almost nobody gets tested — but I have no reason to believe that the percentage of sick people who get tested has changed.
