COVID-19 is low in most places, but there are a few spots around the world which are starting to see rises. (So sorry, COVID-19 is not “over” yet.) This post (2026-06-28) says that Thailand is seeing a fast increase. It’s hard to find really good information, but it looks like Taiwan is also seeing a surge.

💉 This paper from UK (2026-07-01) reports that older adults who had received four COVID-19 vaccinations, their blood didn’t neutralize Omicron as well as it neutralized COVID Classic. However, much to their surprise, their blood neutralized one bat coronavirus and one pangolin coronavirus better than it neutralized COVID classic!
💉 This paper from USA (2026-06-30) reports that people who got a COVID-19 vaccination and an influenza vaccination on the same day did not have any higher risk of adverse side effects than people who just got an influenza vaccination.
COVID-Related Excess Death and Sickness
😲‼️ This paper from Japan (2026-06-02) reports that a COVID-19 infection increases the risk of tuberculosis by about 300%.
😴 This paper from USA (2026-06-23) reports that compared to people without COVID-19 infections, people with COVID-19 infections were more likely to get a diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the next few years. People who were not hospitalized for COVID-19 had a +33% risk of OSA, while people who were hospitalized for COVID-19 had a 41% higher risk of OSA.

This article (2026-06-24) asks a question which seems simple, “What does it mean to recover from long covid?” However, “recovered” is a slippery term when used with a condition which has such large swings — where people have good days and bad days. The authors point out that many studies define “recovered” to mean “had no symptoms on the specific day when the patient was interviewed” or “did the patient ever have a day when they felt as good as prior to getting sick”.
