COVID-19

Charts

From the Viral Pathogen Characterization page:

Influenza levels are definitely, clearly down. At this point, it looks like this season won’t end up as bad as many people (including me) thought it would be.

Last week there was a slight drop in RSV cases, but I said that I thought it was just noise. This week (and last week’s revised numbers) are still below the Jan 15 level, but I’m going to stand by my call that it’s noise.

Something that I should have to apologize for was being sure that COVID-19 was starting to rise — except I apparently forgot to write that prediction down last week! It looks like COVID-19 is still kind of puttering along at its relatively low level.

In the most recent data (ending 17 Jan 2026) as reported on 22 Jan 2026, among influenza-like illness (i.e respiratory diseases) cases that the province has test data for:

  • 56.7% were influenza A or B;
  • 22.9% were RSV;
  • 8.7% were COVID-19;
  • 5.7% were entero/rhinoviruses;
  • 2.6% were metapneumonia viruses;
  • 1.9% were parainfluenza;
  • 1.0% were “common cold” coronaviruses;
  • 0.5% were adenoviruses.
